Roll-off work is different from a portable-toilet route. You're not servicing units in place, you're moving containers on and off sites, and the wrong can on the wrong term costs the office money. This is how you get it right.
The Four Roll-Off Job Types
Delivery drop an empty container on a site to start a rental.Pickup / Return pull a container off a site, ending the rental.Swap exchange a full container for an empty one at the same site.Partial pickup less common; office-driven.What You'll See on a Roll-Off Stop
Every roll-off job (any job tied to a rental term) shows a Roll-Off Rental context card at the top of the job detail:
Container on site product name and item code (like `20 Yd Roll-Off #1042`).Debris type construction, MSW, concrete, green waste, etc.Included tons how much weight the rental covers. If this pull recorded a weight, it appears next to the included amount for quick comparison.Days on site counted from the term start date. Turns red when you're past the included days.Expected pickup date.Term status Active, Pending Pickup, Completed.Use this to answer the two conversations that actually happen at roll-off sites: "That's the wrong debris type" and "You're past your included days."
Delivering a Container
When you open a Delivery job, the Container Placed card walks you through the drop.
1. Confirm the reserved unit
Dispatch reserved a specific container when they scheduled you. The card shows what they picked and pre-selects it in the dropdown.
Right can? Tap Confirm placement.Yard handed you a different can? Type in the search box or scroll to find the one you actually took, then tap Correct & confirm placement. The rental term will carry the correct container after completion, not the one dispatch originally reserved. The picker only shows containers in the same product-type category as the one that was reserved.
2. Capture a placement photo
Optional but strongly recommended, one wide shot of the container in its position. Photos work offline (they queue and upload later).
3. Confirm, with GPS
Tap Confirm placement. The app captures your GPS best-effort and drops a map pin at the exact location, linked to the specific container.
4. Complete the job normally
Delivery completion is otherwise a standard mark-complete. The rental term auto-activates when the delivery closes.
If you couldn't deliver
Use Report an Issue, no room to set, blocked by vehicle, site not ready.
Swapping a Container
When you open a Swap job, the Container Swap card handles the exchange.
Unit coming off site pick from the containers currently deployed at this customer."Same container returned" toggle for a haul-and-return (drive the same can to disposal, tip, bring it back), turn this on. No incoming/outgoing exchange happens.Replacement unit (if not same-container) filtered by category, searchable, up to 1,000 units per query.Pulled unit disposition Back to yard (normal turn) or Needs maintenance (routes to the shop).No-charge swap toggle for warranty exchanges or damaged-unit replacements. Inventory still moves, but zero billing lines are staged.Complete Swap if this rental bills tonnage and you haven't saved a weight ticket, you'll get a nudge asking whether to complete anyway. Otherwise, the swap posts atomically: outgoing released, incoming deployed, pin retargeted.Pulling a Container (Final Pickup)
Verify the roll-off context card matches what's on site.Save a Weight Ticket if the rental bills tonnage.Report any load-condition issues (overfilled, prohibited items) via Report an Issue.Complete the job. Inventory releases automatically and the rental term closes. The Wrong-Can Problem, Solved
Before the confirmation flow existed, if dispatch reserved container `#1042` and the yard actually gave you `#1051`, the rental term stamped the wrong container onto itself when the delivery completed, with no driver-side fix. Now the Container Placed card catches it up-front, the corrected assignment carries through the completion trigger, and the rental term ends up with the right container.
Roll-Off Tips
Always confirm delivery even when the reserved can is right, one tap creates the identity-linked GPS pin the office needs.Take a placement photo for anything on a difficult site (grass, gravel driveway, near landscaping).Use the roll-off context card to spot overage risk before you tell the customer to leave it another week.
