A DVIR (driver vehicle inspection report) is the walk-around check of your
truck before and after the day. In PortaPro you do it on your phone in a
couple of minutes, and any defect you find goes straight to the office's
Fleet Management screens.
Where to start one
inspections are listed under Recent.
inspection and you haven't done today's (see below).
The inspection is for the truck you're assigned to today. There's no vehicle
picker; if the form says No vehicle assigned for today, ask dispatch to
assign your truck.
Fill it in
from your truck's starting mileage or its GPS tracker; correct it if it's
wrong.
in three groups:
- Vehicle Inspection: brakes, steering, tires, headlights and stop
lights, turn indicators, mirrors, windshield wipers, horn, oil pressure
gauge, engine, transmission, fuel tanks, battery, air lines.
- Sanitation Equipment: vacuum pump, waste tank integrity, fresh water
tank, hoses and connections, spray wand and equipment, PTO/pump
engagement, deodorizer/chemical supply.
- Safety & Compliance: fire extinguisher, spill kit, PPE (gloves,
goggles), SDS sheets, GPS/telematics device.
How defects are graded
You don't pick a severity; PortaPro sets it. A failed item on the critical
list is recorded as major and marks the truck out of service; anything
else is minor. The critical items are brakes, steering, tires, headlights
and stop lights, oil pressure, engine, transmission, vacuum pump, waste tank
integrity, hoses, PTO/pump engagement, fire extinguisher, spill kit and PPE.
Before you submit, the form sums it up: Defects Found with the count, or
Vehicle Out of Service when a critical item failed. The office works
defects from Fleet Management; see
On your DVIRs list each inspection shows Passed, the number of
defects, and Out of Service when it applied.
Pre-trip before you start your route
When your company requires a pre-trip inspection, tapping Start route on
the map with no pre-trip inspection yet for today's truck opens Pre-Trip
Inspection Required. Tap Start Pre-Trip DVIR to do it now, or Not
Now to go back. The requirement only applies when you have a truck assigned
today.
Post-trip at the end of the day
When your company requires a post-trip inspection, every job you have today
is completed or cancelled, and you haven't submitted one yet, Today shows a Post-Trip Inspection
prompt ("Great work today!"). Tap Start Post-Trip DVIR, or Remind me in
10 minutes. Until you do it, a Post-Trip Inspection due banner stays at
the top of Today with Complete now.
Signal
You can take defect photos with no signal; they're saved on the phone.
Submitting the inspection needs a connection. If a photo couldn't upload when
you submit, the app says so and the inspection goes in without it, so retake
it if it matters.
