What Walkie-Talkie is
Walkie-Talkie is push-to-talk radio built into PortaPro. Everyone in your organization gets a talk button that lives in the app chrome; hold it and your voice goes out live to everyone tuned to the same channel. Release, and the floor is open for someone else.
It behaves like a real handheld radio, not like a phone call: no ringing, no dialing, no "picking up." Whoever's on the channel hears you the moment you key up. Listeners hop in and out of the voice room automatically, they only join when someone actually keys up, and they leave 30 seconds after the last transmission ends, so the channel stays warm for quick back-and-forth without holding a call open.
Where it fits alongside the other communication tools
Walkie is not a replacement for the phone or for huddles. It's the third channel field crews already reach for.
The three separate things it can do
Walkie-Talkie's behavior is controlled by three switches in Settings → Walkie-Talkie, and each does exactly one thing:
Live voice works with or without recording. Recording works with or without transcription. Transcription requires recording, because there is nothing to transcribe if audio isn't saved. Those three switches are independent on purpose, some crews want a working radio and no history at all; some want the history but never search it; some want both. You choose.
The channel model in one paragraph
Every organization automatically gets one built-in channel: All hands (everyone). Every other channel mirrors a channel you already created in Team Chat, add someone to a Team Chat channel and they can hear the matching walkie channel; remove them and they can't. There is no "New channel" button on the walkie side. This is deliberate: teams live in Team Chat, and the radio just follows.
