Walkie-Talkie
Push-to-talk radio built into PortaPro: live voice, channels, recording and transcripts, personal settings, admin/privacy/billing, and troubleshooting.
Overview
What Walkie-Talkie is, how it fits alongside Team Chat huddles and the phone system, and the three separate things it can do: live voice, recording, and transcription.
Getting Started
How an admin turns Walkie-Talkie on for the organization, what the first bootstrap creates, and how the Growth-tier plan gate works.
Channels
Why there's no "New channel" button, how All hands is always available, and how every other channel mirrors a Team Chat channel.
Using the Talk Button
Hold to talk, tap to latch, the 60-second cap, where the talk bar lives on desktop and phones, what every color and animation means, and what happens during a dispatcher broadcast or a phone call.
Recording and Transcripts
The two independent org switches: Record audio (default on, privacy) and Transcribe speech to text (default off, cost), and what the searchable history page shows in each mode.
Personal Settings
The "My talk bar" card: hide the talk bar on your own devices, and toggle the full-screen ripple and the radio squawk that play when a teammate speaks.
Admin, Privacy, and Billing
Tier requirement, privacy commitments, retention, storage location, and the cost drivers behind Record audio and Transcribe speech to text.
Troubleshooting
The talk button doesn't appear, "Dispatch is broadcasting" locks the channel, live audio isn't playing, transcripts read "Audio only", echo when testing on one machine, the tab still shows a recording indicator, and setup errors.
