How to write, format, attach, mention, react to, edit and delete messages in
Team Chat. The composer works the same on a computer and a phone.
The composer row
The message box sits at the bottom of every channel and conversation, in one
row:
Mention someone and Format text. On a phone these open as a sheet.
empty. As soon as you type, it turns into a blue up arrow (Send
message).
On a computer, press Enter to send and Shift + Enter for a new line.
Formatting
Choose Format text from the + menu to show the formatting bar:
bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, link, bulleted list, numbered list
and quote. Choose Hide formatting to put it away.
Photos and files
Choose Photo or file from the + menu and pick files. You can attach
up to 10 files at a time, each up to 10 MB. Files bigger than that are left
out with a message telling you so. Photos show in the conversation; other
files show as a download.
Dictation
Tap the microphone, speak, and tap it again to stop (Stop dictation).
Your words are typed into the field so you can check them before you send.
Nothing is sent until you press send.
Emoji
Choose Emoji from the + menu to add an emoji to your message.
Mentions
Type @ (or choose Mention someone) and pick a teammate from the list.
The person you mention gets a notification that reads "<your name> mentioned
you in <channel>".
In channels (not in direct messages) the list also offers two broadcast
mentions:

@everyone notifies every channel member except anyone who muted the
channel. @here notifies only the members who are online in PortaPro when
you send it (the same people who show as Online). Use both sparingly.
Someone who set a channel to Muted gets no notification from it, even
when mentioned.
Reactions
reaction.
quick reactions, More reactions, and the message actions.
Reactions show under the message with a count. Tap a reaction to add or
remove yours. To see who reacted, hover over it on a computer, or press and
hold it on a phone.
Editing and deleting
You can edit and delete your own messages only.
Editing message above it. Make the change and save, or tap Cancel.
Edited messages show a small "edited" label.
Older messages and typing
Archived channels
When an owner, admin or dispatcher archives a channel, it disappears from
every member's list. Its messages are kept and the channel comes back with
everything in it if it is restored from Archived channels. Deleting a
channel, by contrast, removes all its messages for good.
