You can tuck a real gift card inside a celebration card. The recipient opens their card, reads everyone's messages, and finds a Claim your $50 Amazon gift card button at the top. They never get a separate email from a gift-card company, and they never have to know how it was arranged.
Gift cards are powered by Tremendous, which has to be connected before the option appears.
Connecting Tremendous
Settings → Gift Cards (or Settings → Integrations → Tremendous). Until it's connected, the gift-card switch in the create dialog is disabled and shows: "Connect Tremendous in Settings to attach gift cards."
Tremendous is billed separately from PortaPro. You fund a balance with them, and they pay out the gift cards.
Attaching a gift card
In the create dialog, switch on Attach a gift card to this celebration, then choose:
Amount. $10, $25, $50, or $100 as one-click presets, or type any custom dollar amount. There is no upper limit, so double-check the custom field before creating the card. A stray zero becomes a real order.
Gift card type. Five options:
| Type | What the recipient gets |
|---|---|
| Amazon | An Amazon gift card |
| Visa prepaid | A prepaid Visa, spendable anywhere |
| Venmo | A Venmo payout |
| PayPal | A PayPal payout |
| Let recipient choose | A catalog they pick from themselves |
"Let recipient choose" is the safe default when you don't know someone's habits.
A live summary confirms the choice, and if your Tremendous balance is below the amount you'll see: "Your Tremendous balance is $X. This gift card may fail to send until you add funds."
When you actually get charged
This is the part worth understanding.
Gift card statuses
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Will send with card | Attached, nothing ordered yet, card not sent |
| Sent | Ordered with Tremendous, link generated |
| Delivered | Tremendous confirmed delivery |
| Claimed | The recipient redeemed it. This is when you're charged |
| Failed | Something went wrong; the reason is shown |
| Canceled | Removed before sending |
Removing a gift card
While the card is still Will send with card and the celebration hasn't been sent, a red Remove button appears in the gift card section. After the celebration is sent, the order is placed and it can't be removed from PortaPro. Handle it in your Tremendous dashboard.
How the redemption link works
The link is embedded in the recipient's card page. Four things to know:
Office staff can copy the redemption link directly from the card page (Copy redemption link; the confirmation reads "Redemption link copied, treat like cash"). Use that if you'd rather hand it over in person.
If the gift card has a Tremendous reward id, View in Tremendous dashboard links straight to it.
When a gift card fails
The card still sends. A gift card failure never blocks the celebration. The gift card section shows Failed with the reason, most often:
Retrying means creating a new celebration card, since the existing one has already been sent and is frozen.
