Most operators serve one state. Default State saves your team from retyping it on every address they enter. Set it once and PortaPro pre-fills the State field on new customer and site addresses.
Setting it
The card shows the current value as a badge with the note "Pre-filled on new customer and site addresses". If nothing is set it reads "No default state set" and no pre-filling happens anywhere.
Where it pre-fills
| Form | Behavior |
|---|---|
| + New Customer (Customer Hub) | Service and billing State pre-filled with the org default |
| New Customer full page | Main Service Address and Default Service Location State pre-filled |
| Add Site on a customer (Sites tab, Rate Card setup, Billing tab) | Uses the cascade below |
| New Job Wizard → Service Location → "Add a new Site" | Uses the cascade below |
The cascade on site addresses
A site belongs to a customer, and a customer's sites are almost always in that customer's own state, so a site address fills in this order:
So a customer based in Texas gets TX on their new sites even when your company default is Ohio.
In the job wizard, quotes and prospects can reach the Location step with no customer chosen yet. That's fine: with no customer to read from, the form falls straight through to your organization's Default State.
It is only ever a suggestion
What it does not touch
Customer import (CSV, spreadsheet, or AI paste) ignores Default State entirely. Imported addresses come from your file exactly as written. A blank State cell stays blank rather than being filled with your default, because guessing there would silently put wrong data on records you believe you imported verbatim. Fix blanks in the file before importing, or edit the affected customers afterward.
Editing an address that already exists is also unaffected. Pre-filling applies to new addresses only.
