Three customer-facing surfaces read from the same tracker data dispatch sees.
"Your driver is 12 minutes away", from the truck
When the assigned truck's tracker comes within about five miles of today's next job, PortaPro sends the enroute text for that job, once per job. This uses the same customer SMS settings as the driver's "On my way" button: it only fires when Settings → Customer SMS is set to Auto (in Manual mode only the driver's button sends), it respects opt-outs, and customer SMS requires the Growth plan. If a text was already sent for the job, the tracker will not send another.
A hardware tracker beats the phone here: it reports whether or not the driver's app is open.
Live map on the tracking page
The public tracking link customers receive embeds a live map with the driver's position (coarsened to protect the driver) and the destination pin, refreshed on every poll, with the ETA above it. The Google Maps link remains below it for directions. If the tracker goes quiet, the page says "Connection lost" with the last update time rather than showing a stale ETA.
Requirements: a vehicle tracker on the truck or the driver app sharing location, the job address geocoded, and the vehicle or driver assigned to the job.
Portal: where your units are
In the customer portal, Units opens with a Where your units are map whenever any unit placed at that customer's sites has a tracking device: a ring where each unit was placed, a solid colour-coded chip where its tracker last reported (green healthy, amber stale, red offline), and a list reading "At its placement · reported 12 min ago" or "1.4 km from its placement · reported 2h ago". Most of the time the ring and the chip overlap; when they don't, the customer sees exactly what you see.
Customers only ever see units placed at their own sites, never another customer's units and never your yard. The view is scoped by the unit's placement pin, not by the device. Customers with no tracked units see the Units view exactly as before: no empty map, no mention of tracking. The same list shows the GPS-verified "On site since …" date once the unit's tracker has entered the site fence; see Verified Rental Dates, Job Prompts, and Weekly Reports.
Why it is useful: a customer who quietly moved a unit sees that you know; a customer worried a unit was stolen sees it is still on site; and "where did you put the second unit?" answers itself.
