PortaPro takes card and bank payments through Stripe. Your company gets
its own Stripe account, created and connected from Settings → Stripe
Management (in the Finance group). Older links to Settings → Payments open
the same page.
The page has three cards:

and can sync branding to Stripe.
Step 1: PortaPro turns on Stripe for your company
Stripe payments are switched on for each company by the PortaPro team, as part
of onboarding. Until that happens the Payment Processing card shows
Stripe setup is done with our team in place of the connect button, with a
link to support@portaprosoftware.com. Email support and we will turn it on.
This is the same for trial and paid accounts. It exists to stop fraud: payment
processing is only opened for real businesses we have spoken with.
Step 2: Connect your Stripe account
Once your company is approved:

bank account). Stripe asks for these, not PortaPro.

placeholder or misrepresented details may be disabled.
Status labels
The Stripe Connect row on the Payment Processing card shows one of
these:
| Label | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Not Connected | No Stripe account is linked. | Connect one (Step 2), or contact support if you see the "set up with our team" notice. |
| Setup Incomplete | The account exists but Stripe still needs information before it can take payments and pay you out. | Click Complete Setup to return to Stripe and finish. |
| Restricted | Stripe has limited the account. An Action Required box shows Stripe's reason. | Click Complete Setup and provide what Stripe asks for. |
| Active | Stripe has your details, and both payments and payouts are on. | Nothing. Customers can pay you online. |
| Status Unavailable | PortaPro couldn't reach Stripe to read the status. | Click Retry. |
When connected, the card also shows Connected as: with the account's
email, and a refresh button to re-read the status from Stripe.
Processing pricing
What you pay depends on your plan and on when your Stripe account was created.
The Payment processing fees card always shows the pricing for your
account.
Flat rate (Growth plan and above). Cards are 2.25% of the amount (any
brand, online or in person, US or international, no fixed per-payment fee)
and Bank transfer / ACH is Free. PortaPro pays Stripe's fees and
charges you the flat rate in their place, so in Stripe each payment shows a
PortaPro platform fee rather than a Stripe processing fee. That fee is the
whole cost, not an addition to one.
Stripe's standard rate (below Growth). Cards are 2.9% + 30¢ and
Bank transfer / ACH is 0.8% (capped at $5). On a newer account this is
billed by PortaPro as a platform fee at Stripe's standard rate.
Older accounts. A Stripe account connected before September 2026 pays
Stripe directly, at Stripe's own pricing (including Stripe's extra charge on
international cards), and PortaPro adds nothing. If your company is on Growth, the
Payment Processing card offers Switch to flat-rate processing. Below
Growth the same row reads "Included with the Growth plan. Upgrade, then switch
here."
Switching an older account to flat-rate processing
Stripe does not let an existing account change who pays its fees, so switching
creates a new Stripe account under PortaPro's pricing.
account, by customer. Those cards have to be entered again after the switch.
account.
New payments use the new account right away. Your old Stripe account is not
closed: past payments, pending payouts and in-flight bank payments stay there
and keep settling.
The fees you see on payments are Stripe's real numbers
The rates on the fees card are for planning. The fee recorded on each payment
is read from Stripe after the payment settles, so it matches your Stripe
balance and your bank deposit. Open the payment under its invoice to see it.
On newer accounts the fee can take a few minutes after the payment to appear.
See Stripe processing fees.
If you run the Cash Discount Program,
its rate follows your processing pricing automatically. You don't type it.
Payment methods
The Payment methods card appears once you are connected. Switch each
method on or off; changes apply to every new invoice payment link.
Google Pay, Link, Amazon Pay, Cash App Pay.
Cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Link, Amazon Pay and ACH start on. Cash App Pay
and the buy-now-pay-later options start off. Some methods need Stripe's
approval for your account; switching one on asks Stripe for it, and the row
says so until Stripe approves.
Payouts go to a bank account
Stripe pays your money out to the bank account you give it during onboarding.
PortaPro accounts pay out to bank accounts only; debit cards are not offered
as a payout destination. Your payout schedule and payout history are in
Stripe. Use Open Stripe Dashboard on the Payment Processing card once
your account is active.
Stripe branding and PortaPro branding
There are two sets of branding:
Company) appears on PortaPro's own payment pages, invoices, receipts and
emails. See Company branding.
Stripe's own receipts and payment emails.
You don't maintain the two separately. Once your account is Active, the
Stripe Branding box has Sync branding to Stripe, which sends your
Company logo and brand color to Stripe. You need a logo uploaded in Settings →
Company first. Run it again after you change your logo or color.
Where customers can pay online
Once your account is active, customers can pay by card or bank:
invoice with no sign-in. It is on unless you turn it off in Settings →
Finance → Invoices.
it on in the same place.
Neither the email link nor the QR appears without a connected Stripe account,
or on an invoice with nothing left to pay. See
Invoice email payment options.
Cards on file and taking a card from the office
Office card entry stays inside PortaPro:
customer's profile in a PortaPro window.
Neither sends you to a Stripe page. If anyone ever asks you to read out a code
texted to the customer during a card entry, stop: that is a customer-facing
Stripe feature, not part of PortaPro.
Saved cards belong to the Stripe account they were saved on. Switching to
flat-rate processing, or disconnecting and connecting a new account, means
those cards have to be entered again.
Disconnecting
PortaPro stops taking payments until you connect again. Your Stripe account is
not deleted, and pending payouts still go out. Payments already in progress on
that account still settle in PortaPro. If you connect again later you go
through the Enable Payments agreement and Stripe onboarding again, and the
new connection is a new Stripe account.
