PortaPro tells people about job changes in four ways: the bell in the app,
push notifications on a phone, email, and (for one alert) a text message.
Which ones you get is your own choice, set per alert type. This article
covers the job alerts office staff and drivers receive, how to turn on push,
and the separate texts your customers can receive.
The four channels
| Channel | Where it arrives | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| In-App (the bell) | The bell in the app header, on any screen | Always recorded, even during quiet hours |
| Push | The PortaPro Field Operations app on your phone | Phone app only. A web browser never receives push. |
| The email address you sign in with | ||
| Text | The mobile number on your profile | Only the Overdue & Missed Stops alert has a text option |
Job alerts for office staff
Open Settings → Notifications. Under Notification Preferences, the
Jobs & Routes group holds the job alerts. Each row has its own In-App,
Push, Email and Text boxes.
| Row | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Job Assignments | "When jobs are assigned to you" |
| Overdue & Missed Stops | "The end-of-day report of stops not marked complete, and jobs past due." |
| Route & Schedule Changes | "When routes or schedules are modified" |
The end-of-day missed-stop report goes to admins and dispatchers once a day,
shortly after your Day ends at time, and only when the report is turned
on in Settings → Routing → Missed stops. It is off until you turn it on.
See Missed Stops and Rescheduling.
Text is off until you tick it. The box is greyed out with a reason when
your company's SMS number isn't live yet ("Text needs an active SMS number
(Settings → SMS).") or your profile has no mobile number ("Add a mobile
number to your profile to receive texts.").
Two job alerts reach admins and dispatchers without a settings row, because
they need action right away:
damaged unit and so on). The bell and push read "Driver issue:" and the
reason, or "Driver needs dispatch" when the driver marks it urgent.
Bills until date (7 by default) and again on that date, unless a
pickup is already booked.
Quiet Hours / Do Not Disturb, at the bottom of the same page, silences
push, email and text during the hours you pick. The bell still records the
alert.
Job alerts for drivers
Drivers manage their alerts in the phone app under Profile. The
Notification Types list has a push switch for New Job Assignments,
Schedule Changes, Time-Off Updates and Overdue Alerts.
A driver is notified when:
missed-stop auto-move moves it to the next business day;
("Order changed after loading").
Push notifications on your phone
Push only works in PortaPro Field Operations, the phone app from the
App Store and Google Play. Opening PortaPro in a phone or computer browser
never turns on push; the bell and email still work there.

your phone.
On a computer, the same page shows Your phone as Set up or Not
set up, which tells you whether your phone is registered. When it reads
Set up, Send Test Notification works from the computer too.
If the test fails with "No active device is registered for this account",
open the phone app, allow notifications, and try again. If notifications
are blocked, allow them for PortaPro in your phone's Settings app.
A phone receives push for whoever is signed in to the app on it. When
someone else signs in on that phone, the alerts follow them. On a shared
truck tablet, alerts follow the driver signed on with their PIN.
Tapping a notification opens the related screen in the app.
Texts and emails your customers receive
These go to customers, not staff, and each has its own switch:
Day-Before Service Reminder Texts.
Route Optimization Features: an estimated service window when a route
is dispatched. Off by default.
See Proof of Service and the Service Completed Notice.
